WHAT IS CBT?

CBT-Diagram.png

COGNITIVE BEHAVIOR THERAPY (CBT)

Short term and goal oriented, this is an evidence based practice used to treat a wide range of issues. Effective for adults, adolescents and children who have general or severe anxiety, depression, substance issues, phobias or habits that they want to change.

Basically, CBT works like this: You witness an event, which leads you to a thought/beliefs which then makes you have a feeling/emotion which then influences your behavior.

This sequence happens super fast, and most people aren’t even aware that this is occurring.

Becoming conscious of what your sequence is and changing the negative beliefs that create harmful thoughts and behaviors is the goal of CBT

Based on what your situation is...what you are dealing with, you can learn CBT skills in about 5 to 20 sessions.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT AN APPOINTMENT

We will spend the session focused on current concerns and problems, and we will try to resolve them during your appointment.

We’ll work together to set goals and find solutions to your present challenges.

You will become aware of any negative thoughts and how they can trap you in a negative cycle.

CBT will help you find your truth and break those negative cycles and patterns.

It will transform you and give you the skills you need to be free of negativity and self doubt.

WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER AN APPOINTMENT

Some homework during the week!

Really, all you’ll need to do is become aware of how a SITUATION that you experience during the week, will set in motion a THOUGHT, which will elicit an EMOTION in you and end up creating a PHYSICAL FEELING (clenched jaw, stomach ache…) which will then trigger an ACTION.
